KONSTANTINOS XENOPOULOS ARHON ICONOGRAPHER OF THE PATRIARCHATE OF ALEXANDRIA

Konstantinos Xenopoulos was born in Serres Strimonico in 1959. He studied in the Athonias Ecclesiastical Academy where he also worked as a professor of Iconography for four years. He is the director of the Karapiperios School of Byzantine Iconography which he established in 1990 in Katerini. Invited by his eminence the Metropolitan of Minsk k.k. Filaretou, he moves to Russia in January of 1991. In September of 1992, he becomes director of the newly established School of Byzantine Iconography of the Holly Metropolis of Serres and Nigrita in which he also teaches until May of 1997. He was entrusted by his beatitude the Patriarch Dimitrios, to create the iconographies which were gifted during his official tours. The Ecumenical Patriarch k.k. Vartholomaios confined him with the task of the iconography of temples in Finland, Hungary and Poland. On 19th June 1996 he publishes the book ‘Kopos kai Spoudi’ which contains courses of classical iconography. In December of 1997 he launches the first issue of the School’s magazine named ‘O Panselinos’. On 20th September 1998 he is honoured with the medal of the Order of the Holly Sheep of the Archdiocese of Finland and on 17th October 1998 with the medal of the Autocephalous Church of Poland. Since 1999 he teaches in the Secondary School of Music in Pieria. In January of 2000, he publishes his second book with title ‘The Dignity of a brush’. Since 2000 he teaches byzantine iconography in Sommer Akademie of Moosburg in Austria. From January of 2001 he collaborates with his beatitude the Patriarch of Alexandria k. Petros. He continues his collaboration with his beatitude the Pope and Patriarch of Alexandria and all Africa k.k. Theodoros. He has created iconographies for the Patriarch Temple in Alexandria and mosaics for the new Patriarch Mansion. In June of 2001 he is honoured with a diploma and a medal, by the polish mass media, for his contribution in the nation’s cultural events. Since September 2006 he is the director of the newly established School of Byzantine Iconography of the Holly Metropolis of Aitolia and Akarnania. In March of 2007 he has published his new book with title ‘Saint Antonios in Byzantine Art’ (short biography and iconography courses). In May of 2008 his beatitude the Pope and Patriarch of Alexandria and all Africa k.k. Theodoros honoured him with the orthodox ecclesiastical office of the Arhon Iconographer. In May of the same year he has published his fourth book named ‘Travelling with the Art in Athona Mount’. He is a member of the Chamber of Fine Arts of Greece. He is married and father of four children. He lives and works in Katerini.
